3:26 The real mother ¹  spoke up to the king, for her motherly instincts were aroused. ²  She said, “My master, give her the living child! Whatever you do, don’t kill him!” ³  But the other woman said, “Neither one of us will have him! Let them cut him in two!”

1 Raja-raja 5:6

5:6 So now order some cedars of Lebanon to be cut for me. My servants will work with your servants. I will pay your servants whatever you say is appropriate, for you know that we have no one among us who knows how to cut down trees like the Sidonians.”

11:2 They came from nations about which the Lord had warned the Israelites, “You must not establish friendly relations with them! ⁴  If you do, they will surely shift your allegiance to their gods.” ⁵  But Solomon was irresistibly attracted to them. ⁶

11:33 I am taking the kingdom from him ⁷  because they have ⁸  abandoned me and worshiped the Sidonian goddess Astarte, the Moabite god Chemosh, and the Ammonite god Milcom. They have not followed my instructions ⁹  by doing what I approve and obeying my rules and regulations, like Solomon’s father David did. ¹⁰

[11:2]  ⁶ tn Heb “Solomon clung to them for love.” The pronominal suffix, translated “them,” is masculine here, even though it appears the foreign women are in view. Perhaps this is due to attraction to the masculine forms used of the nations earlier in the verse.
